(400 Words)
Your actions on your first or second date can dictate whether you have a third. Consider the following tips when communicating during these dates.
Do not monopolize the conversation
Many people have one favorite subject: themselves. They may love to talk and talk, and you may not even realize that you are not letting the person get in a word edgewise. Most people are not going to be interested in a relationship with someone who does not let them speak. You may not even be doing it on purpose, but doing so inadvertently. Make a concerted effort to let them talk. If you find that you are going on, then shut your mouth and listen to what they have to say.
You should also try to talk about things that they find interesting. If you see them looking away or appearing to be bored then move on to another topic.
Show interest in their activities
It may not be enough to just let them talk – you should listen to what they have to say. Even if you are not enthralled, show that you are interested in it because they are interested in it. You can do this by asking meaningful and appropriate questions.
Be polite
You are not talking to your closest friend. You will not know the boundaries with them such as whether you can curse, the humor they appreciate and so forth. When you are on a first or second date you want to show that you have manners. Unless you know that they curse themselves, do not do so in front of them. Be respectful. Do not laugh or make fun of them. You may think you are making a joke but it can be very easy to insult someone without even realizing it.
Carefully consider the topics of discussion
You may want to avoid asking about marriage or children. Do not get into a political argument. Try to stay positive in your conversation and not insult people. Try to find a topic in which you have shared interests.
Show confidence
You can portray confidence – or not – by how you speak. Do not be overly assertive so that you put them off, but show that you are confident in yourself through your words and tone of voice.
Your communication during a first or second date can set you on – or off – course. Utilize the above communication tips.
