: Creating a Theme for your Dinner Party

A theme can bring delight and creativity to your dinner party. There are many ways that you can incorporate one into your event, including the following strategies.
Decide on your theme
First you will need to choose what theme you want to do. You will have many choices. A lot of people choose to tie their theme into a holiday. For instance, if it is near Valentine’s Day, this might be the theme of your dinner. Another nice theme is tie it into the season. You might make a winter wonderland theme in January or a beach theme during July. You can also just think about things that you like. If you love the Renaissance, then this can be the theme; if you love astronomy, then you can tie this in.
Put up decorations related to the theme
You can decorate the room with pre-made or created items related to this theme. For instance, if you are creating an astronomy theme you can get pictures of the stars or planets. You can hang up mobiles of the solar system. You can be more creative and line the walls with black paper covered in silver glitter so that it seems like the entire dinner party is taking place amongst the stars. If you are doing a spring theme, then sprinkle flower petals over the table.
You can also decorate the chairs to go along with the theme. For the spring, you can tie some chiffon around the chairs and in the back place some flowers.
Use party supplies related to the theme
If your dinner party is not formal and you are using paper goods instead of china, then you can get these to go with the theme. If you go to a party supply store such as Party City, you will find a wide range of decorations to fill many different themes. Online sources such as Party Express and Oriental Trading Company have additional items. You can get tablecloths, paper plates, paper napkins, paper cups, etc.
Incorporate the theme into your food
If you are making a theme of Halloween, then you can serve foods with squash and pumpkin. If the theme is the Renaissance, then you can serve food related to that time. Be creative. If you have a cake, then you can also incorporate it into that.
Incorporate it into the activities
Some people have activities related to their theme during the dinner party. If it is a murder mystery dinner party, for instance, then you can put on a little show or a game for the guests to solve.
Send the guests home with a fitting favor such as a little bloom in a vase for the spring party. With a little creativity you can make a fabulous theme dinner party.
