Different Options available for Lesbian Couples Wanting a Child

It can be challenging for lesbian couples who desire a child. Obviously, they cannot have one together in the usual manner, but that does not mean that they cannot be mothers. The following strategies are commonly employed.
Artificial insemination
A lot of lesbian couples will choose to have artificial insemination. The positives of this are that you do not have to go through the difficulty, hardships and problematic laws sometimes associated with adoption. You will also not need to worry about a father showing up to assert his paternal rights if you go through a sperm bank. One of the women will be able to experience pregnancy and the baby will be biologically hers. It is not as costly as adoption and some of the other methods (if it is not complicated). Some lesbian couples will do this several times, taking turns having the children.
Have the child with a male friend
Some lesbian couples will choose to have a child the “old fashioned way.” They will have a male friend with whom one of them has intercourse to try to have a child. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. First, it is the cheapest method because obviously it does not cost anything to get pregnant (although you will of course need to pay for the pregnancy costs such as medical bills). Also, one of the women will be the biological mother and you can choose the father. The downside might be in the actual selection of the father. It can be difficult to find someone who would be comfortable with giving up the child. You do not want to have a problem later if the father changes his mind. Also, some women would have difficult being intimate with a male.
Adoption
Adoption is one of the most common methods for lesbian couples to bring a child into their home. There are different laws in different states. Sometimes one of the women will do the adoption as a single parent. Some choose to adopt an infant, others first try fostering and then adopt through that system while others will look to adopt an older child. Some will choose to adopt a foreign child. Make sure you are aware of the state laws regarding this.
A lesbian couple can provide a wonderful, supportive atmosphere for a child. The above ways are the more popular methods of how such a couple can become mothers.
