(505 Words)
A fun activity for children during Easter is a craft. This can get them into the spirit of the holiday in a fun and educational manner. There are many easy paper crafts that are appropriate for children of all different ages. Try the following ideas with your students or children.
Paper Easter Egg mobile
The children can make an Easter egg mobile out of paper as a craft for Easter. Get some thick construction paper. Depending on the age of the children, either you or they can cut out eggs of different sizes. They may be the size of actual eggs or you can make them a little larger or smaller.
The children should then decorate the eggs. They can use various art supplies to do so. Younger children can simply use crayons, markers or colored pencils. They can draw abstract designs such as polka dots or stripes or they can make whatever designs they prefer.
The children can also add embellishments to their “Easter eggs.” Get some glue and allow them to glue on glitter, feathers, rhinestones, crystals and whatever other embellishments you can find.
To finish the mobile get a hanger for the children. If you want it to be all paper, then you can purchase very hard paper and cut it into the shape of a hanger. Punch holes in the tops of the eggs, and tie a 12 inch piece of yarn to each one. Tie the other end of the strings to the mobile. The children will have colorful decorations to use for Easter.
Bunny mask
The children can pretend to be Easter bunnies by making paper bunny masks. On a thick piece of construction paper, draw the general shape of a rabbit’s head, including the big fluffy ears. You can draw a mask for the entire face or stop just under the nose. Exactly how big it should be should correlate to the general shape of the heads of the children. (You can use a tape measure to get an idea).
Depending on the age of the children, either you or they should cut out the mask. Make sure to cut out two holes for the eyes. If it is a full and not a half mask, then cut out holes for the nose and mouth as well.
The children should then decorate the masks so that they look like the faces of bunnies. They can use art supplies and embellishments as described above. They can draw in noses, eyelashes and other facial features. When they have finished, use a hole puncher to punch a hole in either side. Take a large rubber band and snip it in half. Tie each end to one of the sides so that it forms a band that will allow the mask to stay on.
