He is your best friend, and you want to take good care of him. Just as with humans, there are many factors that can influence a dog’s health and a lot that you can do in order to keep him or her in top shape. Consider the following factors that can affect your pet.
The dog’s diet
What you eat plays a big role in your health and so does your dog’s food. It is important to feed your dog healthy foods. There are certain foods meant for dogs with certain characteristics or conditions such as advanced age. You can talk to your vet about the best food for your dog. Of course you want to make sure to get a reputable brand that is safe and make sure that you use it within any expiration dates. Also, some people think they do their dogs a favor by feeding them every bit of people food. Dogs have different bodies than humans and not all of the food that is okay for one will be okay for the other. Make sure that you know exactly what is healthy.
Genetics
Some things may be beyond your control. Your dog may have a predisposition to a certain type of ailment. If you know this is the case, then you might want to be on the lookout for it.
Does the dog receive proper medical care?
Dogs need to go in for checkups, too. You should have the vet do their regular examinations to make sure that your dog is in top shape and to address any issues that may have arisen. If the dog does have a condition, then you should follow the vet’s advice to take care of him or her. If they are on medication, then make sure to administer it to them. Also if something seems to be wrong with your dog such as if they have a funny spot or lump on them or if they are acting out of character or sick, then you should get them medical attention.
The activity your dog gets
Many dogs like to be active. You want your dog to be happy and not to be afraid or stressed. Obviously abused dogs can suffer health-wise. Also be sure to think about other considerations such as making sure that he or she does not get overheated in the hot sun.
You want your furry friend to remain healthy and happy. The above factors are some that can influence a dog’s health.
