Factors that Affect your Weight
A person’s weight is influenced by a wide variety of factors. Knowing these different issues may help you to control your weight better and reach any goals. The following are some of these factors.
What you eat
The saying goes “you are what you eat” and to a large extent these two are highly related. With everything else being equal, the same person who eats a lot of calories will be heavier than someone with a lower caloric intake. Someone who is always eating a lot of unhealthy and calorie-laden foods like candies, cakes, fried foods, creamy foods will be heavier. Obviously this is why dieting is one of the most popular ways that people try to lose weight.
How much you exercise
Exercise can help you burn those calories that you eat. Someone who exercises a lot can help to get rid of weight from fat, which can help to soften the bad news from your scale. On the other hand, muscle weighs a lot too, so if you are doing a lot of body building, you might actually see your weight go up from these exercises although it will be good weight that is healthy for your body. Also muscle burns more calories than fat does so if you are full of muscle you might have an easier time keeping the weight down.
How active you are
Regardless of exercise if you are generally active throughout the day then this can help to keep your weight down. If you are always walking around you will burn more calories than if you spend a lot of time sitting in front of the television or the computer. Some people will even buy a little pedaling machine to keep under their desk in order to help them shed those pounds. Also there are practices that can just help you lose more weight such as choosing to walk up stairs instead of taking the elevator.
Your metabolism and physical characteristics
Obviously all things being equal someone who is taller will weigh more. Some people just have larger bodies and will weigh more. Also, your metabolism affects how much you weigh. Some people have a far more difficult time losing or gaining weight. Also certain conditions like untreated hypothyroidism can make it more difficult to lose weight as can certain medications.
Your weight is related to many different things. The above factors all can play a part.
