Fun Christmas Gift Exchange Games

(464 Words)
If you are having a gift exchange with a group, you can incorporate a game as a fun activity. There are many different games that you can choose that can be a lot of fun. Try the following ideas with your group.
Holiday trivia game
Real Simple suggests a simple and fun game with trivia. Come up with a variety of questions. It could be a holiday trivia game. Whoever answers the first question will get the first gift and then so on until all of the presents are gone. It can also be a trivia game related to the people in the gift exchange. For instance, everyone can write down something interesting about themselves. You can combine these on paper and have everyone try to guess which fact goes with which person. The person who gets the most picks the first gift, the one with the second most gets the next gift and so forth.
Musical gifts
This is a version of musical chairs except the gifts are what will move. Everyone will sit in a circle holding a gift. Play music and make the gifts go back and forth. You can do several rounds. When the music finally stops, everyone gets to keep the gift that is in their hands.
Another idea from Party Game Ideas is to read a story and have everyone in the circle move the gifts left when the word “left” is said and right when the word “right” is said.
Gifts on a string
Place all of the gifts in one area and attach a long piece of yarn to each one. The yarn for each of the gifts should be a different color. Take the pieces of yarn and tape them to different locations throughout the room. It should be impossible for people to tell where their gift is. Place the ends of the yard together. Everyone chooses one piece of yarn and has to follow it to their gift. It can be a lot of fun as they have to unwind the string past each other to find their gifts.
Gift scavenger hunt
You can make a scavenger hunt for people to find their gifts. The complexity of the clues will depend on whether the children are adults or children, where it is being held and how many people are involved. You could have everyone follow the same scavenger hunt to a room with all of the gifts (and then the first people get first choice) or everyone can have their own individual hunt to their gift.
A holiday gift exchange game can provide a fun activity for your gift exchange. You may want to allow for swapping at the end to make the most people happy. Try a different game every year for variety.
