Great Summer Activities for Toddlers

You want to keep your toddler busy during the summer months. Exactly what you do will depend on where you live and what is available in your area, but there are many great choices.
Water fun
There are many different water-based activities that work well for the summer. You can take your toddler to a swimming pool or to a water park, especially if they offer a toddler section. Of course, make sure to take all of the proper water safety precautions such as always supervising your child and using sunscreen.
You can also make your own water fun. Buy a small wading pool for the patio or backyard and let him or her play. You can even buy inflatable structures that have large slides and sprinklers. For something inexpensive and fun, buy something that attaches to the water hose and sprays water everywhere. If you have a pool, then make a pool party for your friends.
Fairs and festivals
A lot of areas take advantage of the beautiful summer weather to put on fairs and activities for toddlers. For instance, many government areas have free fireworks for Fourth of July. You can also do something special for Father’s Day. Look in your local area to take advantages of what is offered.
Parks
Let your toddler explore nature during the mild summer months. Most areas are near to some sort of natural area such as a national park. Go on walks through nature. Also, you can look for playgrounds so that your little one can run around and get out his or her energy.
You can also play outdoor games, suggests Parenting. Let your child ride his her bike outdoors. Play sports such as soccer with your child. Get a toddler size basketball hoop and try to score some points. You can let your toddler try a hand at t-ball. In addition to doing these sports at home, you can also sign your child up for some sort of club sports program in the community.
Look for children’s programs
Organizations such as libraries often put together summer programs. For instance, the Southwest Regional Library in South Florida has a bunch of events aimed at young children almost every week of the summer. These include magician’s performances, story time and arts and crafts.
The summer is a wonderful time for your child to enjoy the great outdoors. Try a wide variety of activities to entertain your son or daughter.
