For a pretty look suitable for day or evening, you could put the barrette on one side of your hair. This can look sultry and is very flattering. Because you will probably be securing only part of your hair with a barrette and not all of it, you will need smaller and thinner barrettes. Look for something age appropriate.

Combs come in many different shapes and sizes. Some are tiny and will pull up a small amount of hair whereas others are larger and will work for more of the hair. You can use them to pull up one or both sides of the hair. As an adult you may want to get a simple one. Some of these are specifically made to blend in with the hair whereas others have embellishments along the edge. These can be simple and casual or fancy for a special occasion or event.
There are many different hair accessories that work for adults with shoulder length hair. Make sure that whatever you wear is comfortable since they can give you a headache if they are too tight. Use different pieces on different days for a varied look.
