Human resources can add quite a bit to a business. There are many ways that this department can make a difference by adding value in the following ways.
They can hire better employers who can make the business better
The employees of a business can make a tremendous difference in the success of a business. In the exact same business with the same products and pricing, different workers can literally make the difference between success and failure. For instance, if you are selling something, a good HR department can hire great salespeople as employees who sell a lot and make the business a lot of money. A bad HR can make bad hiring choices and you can end up with employees who have difficulty making sales and the business can even ultimately fail.
If your employees are dealing with customers or clients, which most do in one way or another, then having employees capable of this can help keep clients and customers and promote value. Human resources can help find the employees who will work effectively, efficiently and honestly, while a bad human resource division may find the opposite.
It is not even always about finding the best person, but finding the best person for the job. You can have two people who are highly qualified but one might fit in better at the job and add more value to the company. For instance, a good HR department might be able to weed out people who are overqualified and who would end up quitting in a few months when they get something better.
They can help to keep the employees happy, which might help them work better
A good human resources department can help the employees with issues that arise. They can help to keep employees happy, which might mean that they will work harder. Sometimes they can help smooth problems, which might even keep good employees from leaving.
They can help get good insurance for the employees
The human resources department will often deal with the insurance for the employees of a company. They might be able to negotiate good deals for the employees. With good insurance plans and rates the company might hire a better class of workers, which can add value to the business. If they cannot successfully negotiate this, then they may get lower class workers, which might make the business less successful.
Human resources can make a big difference in the value of a company for the above reasons.
