How to Dress Professionally

It is important to dress professionally for interviews, work and other situations. Of course, the method of dress will depend on whether you are a female or male, and there are different levels of professional dress depending on the actual situation.
The first step in dressing professionally is choosing a nice suit. Men will want to wear a shirt underneath their suit. If the material is thin, then they may want to consider an undershirt. A tie should match the look. Women can choose a pants suit or a suit with a skirt. If they choose a skirt with a suit, then it is important that the skirt is not short. It should also not be too revealing as far as cleavage.
The color of the suit will play a part in how professional the look is. Many professional suits are dark colors such as black, navy or a burgundy, although they can be light if it is not overbearing. If a man has a bright orange suit, for instance, then that is hardly likely to look professional. There is a little more flexibility in woman’s suits. Novelty ties might be fun, but a lot of them will not look professional. In some positions, these may be fine, but you will want to be conservative if you are not sure of how to dress or you know that is the look that they want.
It is also very important for the clothing to fit well. You will not look professional if your clothes are too tight on you, too long or if they are hanging off. If you lose or gain a lot of weight, then you may want to consider getting the clothing altered or purchasing new clothing.
The clothing must also be in pristine shape. There should be no tears or stains. The clothing should not be wrinkled. Iron it or get it professionally pressed if need be.
Consider footwear and accessories
You will want to make sure that everything you wear is professional. If you are wearing ten gold chains with a big charm that says “Sexy Mama” then you are probably not going to be deemed professional. The jewelry should be tasteful and not overbearing. Men should wear clean dress shoes. Women will have a variety of footwear choices that are professional such a pumps. Obviously she should not wear anything too casual such as sneakers or something that looks like it is more suited to a nightclub than a job.
