How to Easily Return Merchandise to the Store

Returning merchandise to a store is no one’s favorite activity, however at times it has to be done for the sake of finances. There are different ways that this can be as painless as possible. Consider the following tips.
Know the store’s return policy
You will be one step ahead if you know the return policy of the store. Many stores have it printed on the back of their receipt. Others will have it listed on their websites. Sometimes it is posted in the store, and of course you can always ask someone. In addition to knowing what their official return policy is, you might want to try to find out how closely it is followed. For instance, some stores have a posted sign for thirty days, but they will usually allow you to return something much longer than that.
Bring everything you need
If you need the receipt, then bring it if you have it. You might want to make it a habit of always keeping the receipts so that you will have an easier time with returns. Some stores will want the original credit card that you paid with. Other stores like Target can look up the sale on the credit card if you do not have the receipt.
Go during a quiet time
It may be easier to return something if you go when the store is not as busy. It can take a lot longer to do a return than to buy an item, and the line can be quite long if you go when it is busy. You might want to try in the morning or on a weekday if possible.
Go within their time limit
Most stores have a time limit on returns. Some will allow you to go over that, but you will have a much easier time if you adhere to their rules. They cannot fight you if you have everything right.
Try to return the item in good shape
If you can, put the item back in the original packaging. Make sure to include everything that you got with it. If it is an article of clothing you might want to keep the tags on until you are sure you are not going to return something.
Be nice
Oftentimes, someone will give you a break if you are nice to them, even if you are past date or not in compliance in some other way. Be earnest and ask it as a favor, not demanding.
Returning store merchandise isn’t fun, but there are ways to make it easier. Utilize the above tips to aid you in this.
