How to Find Free Childrens Activities

Children’s activities can be extremely expensive and can especially add up if you have more than one child. Still you want your child to enjoy a variety of activities throughout the year. There are many places that offer free programs for children. These range depending on your local area.
Libraries
Libraries are an excellent source for free activities. Many libraries offer story times for different age groups, with or without the provider. Some offer game nights. A lot of them offer storybook festivals and seasonal activities such as arts and crafts. These typically offer programs for toddlers through teens. Library systems will often have websites or program booklets where you can find out about the different events.
Parks
A lot of parks offer free events for children. These may include nature programs. Even if there is not a scheduled program, you can take your child to play at the playground or walk a nice path. Look to the park websites to see what events are offered or call.
Community events
Different communities and government entities hold events throughout the year. These are often done seasonally. They may have a winter festival during December, for instance. Many cities have a free Easter egg hunt in the spring.
There are also a lot of free concerts in communities across the country. For instance, the city of Hollywood, Fla., offers free concerts at least four nights a week on a band shell by the beach. Most cities now have a web presence where they indicate upcoming programs.
Retail sources
Some retail stores offer free programs in order to entice parents to go into their stores. For instance, in the South Florida area, several local Publix stores offer a free clown show weekly. Many of the bookstores offer free weekly storytimes where the kids can come and listen to books being read. Some home improvement stores offer free workshops for kids. Also, some craft stores offer arts and crafts activities at the stores.
You can also look at shopping centers such as malls. Many of these offer “clubs” that hold different events throughout the year. Individual stores such as the Disney Store offer kids’ programs, too.
Free days at attractions
Some attractions offer special free days. These may include museums and other places that work well for children.
Moms’ clubs
There are many moms’ groups throughout the country that plan free activities. These may include play dates or get-togethers at members’ houses.
There are many places where you can look for information about local activities. You may be able to find out about free activities through a local magazine or directory. For instance, South Florida Parenting lists the daily local events in the South Florida area. You can look online as well. Try the different activities to see what your child likes best.
