How to Fit more in a Closet

(507 Words)
Your linen closet may not be nearly big enough for all of the items that you wish to put into it. Fortunately, there are a number of ways that you can increase the space in your linen closet to give yourself more room.
First, you should consider what is in your linen closet. If it is the summer, you do not need your heavy blankets easily accessible in the linen closet. You might be able to put them somewhere else, such as in a storage space that is not as easily accessed, but is fine for the off-season. The linen closet should be reserved for things that you use often. Also consider how much of each item you have. If you have two beds and twenty sheet sets, then you might be able to weed out a few that you no longer use.
You can make extra space in your linen closet by putting in risers and extra shelving. For instance, you might have vertical space that is simply not being used. Not only can extra shelving and risers allow you to put in more items, but it can make it easier to get the items that are in there. You won’t have to unpack everything to get at the bottom items.
You may also be able to vacuum seal certain items to make them much smaller in your linen closet. For instance, let’s say you have the items that you really do not use very often, such as off-season linens, but you do not have another place that you can keep them. They make special bags that vacuum seal closed. These shrink in size considerably because all of the air is sucked out. These bags come in many different shapes and sizes, but may be an option for you.
You should also make sure that everything is folded neatly in your linen closet. If things are crumpled up or not put in nicely, then they may take extra room. Take everything out, fold the items nicely and put them back in and you may have more room than before.
If you have a deep linen closet but don’t want to store things in the very back because you feel like you can’t reach them, then you can put in slide out storage. Use a shelf or something that you can slide out so that you can reach things in the back.
You can also hang something on the back side of the door for extra space. For instance, you can get an over the door organizer with a lot of little slots that you can use to put pillowcases and other small items.
There are many different ways that you can make extra space in your linen closet. Look at the closet and see whether there is any extra space. For instance, if there are baskets that have space around them, then change to shelf dividers and use every available inch. With all of the different measures, you will create more space in your linen closet.
