How to Make a Santa Claus Costume

Why spend money on a Santa Claus costume when you can easily make one yourself from common and inexpensive clothing items? You can create as simple or elaborate a costume as you like, suitable for children or adults.
• Suit
Purchase a large red sweatshirt with matching pants. You will not need to make any changes to the pants. Purchase white faux fur fabric from a craft store and cut it into strips that are approximately three inches in width. Sew or glue (with fabric glue) strips along the bottom of the sweatshirt, around the cuffs and in a vertical line down the center front of the shirt. • Boots
Santa Claus wears black boots with a ring of white fluff at the top. Buy some inexpensive black boots. Take the same fabric that you used to line the coat and sew or glue a ring of approximately three inches to the top of the boots.
You can save even more money by forgoing the actual boots but not the look. Give the illusion of boots by adding black fabric to the bottom of the red pants. Simply sew or glue black fabric to the bottom of the pants, and then add white fluff to the top. Wear black shoes.
• Hat
Of course, the signature hat is an important part of any Santa Claus costume. Buy red felt that matches the sweatshirt, and cut it into a large triangle. Sew or glue the ends together to make a cone-shaped cap. Line the inside bottom of the hat with a ring of cardboard to give it shape and allow it to stay on your head. Add the same white fluffy fabric to the bottom to complete the hat.
• Beard
Use fluffy cotton to make the beard. Take white fabric and cut it into the shape of the beard that fits your face. Glue fluffy white cotton curls to the front of it. Tie a thin elastic strip to either side of the beard so that you will be able to secure it around your face.
• Other accessories
Add a black belt to the coat. If you do not already own a suitable belt, simply use a piece of black fabric for the belt and tie it in the back. Add white gloves. Spectacles will complete the outfit.
A homemade Santa Claus costume can be fun to make and last for years. With time and effort, you can make a realistic suit.
