(430 Words)
A neighborhood block party can provide enjoyment as well as a way for you to become closer to your neighbors. It can solidify friendships and start a tradition. Much will go into the planning of a neighborhood block party, and the following tips can lead you to success.
Carefully choose a date and time
You want as many people from the block to be able to attend as possible. Of course, there is no one time that is likely to be best for everyone, but there are times that will garner you the most guests. You may want to do it during a weekend when people are off from work. Also consider the time. Unless you have a lot of lighting you may want to do it during the day if it will be outside as many neighborhood block parties are. You can also survey the neighbors to get an idea of what is generally a good time for most.
Consider location
A neighborhood block party can get quite big, especially in larger neighborhoods. You need somewhere that will accommodate everyone. Many choose to have it in the street. Of course this may not be possible if you live in a busy street. You may choose a park or even someone’s home.
Plan the food
Most successful neighborhood block parties have some delicious food. Of course it may be too much for one person to supply all of the food for the party. Many choose to have a pot luck meal and ask everyone to bring a little something. You can do something inexpensive such as ordering pizzas. Of course if you have the money you can cater in something nice. Also make sure you have enough to drink. Plan for other party supplies such as paper plates.
Plan the activities/entertainment
Some neighborhood block parties do not have much in entertainment but just provide a nice way for people to talk and mingle. You may want to bring a portable stereo to play some music. You could do something more extravagant such as hire a clown for the kids if you have the funds. You can also plan some fun party games.
Take action
Once the planning is done it is time to take action. Put out flyers, talk to people or otherwise make sure to spread the word to everyone in the neighborhood. You also may want to plan for eventualities such as if it rains during an outside party. Take your time and put in the effort, and you are likely to have a successful neighborhood block party.
