How to Decide whether to Carpool

Carpooling is a very convenient and money-saving strategy for many but for some it is more trouble than it is worth. Consider the following points when deciding whether it is right for you.
Can you use the money?
Carpooling can save you money, which a lot of people like. In general you will use less gas, and with the prices of fuel these days, that can add up very quickly. In addition you can save wear and tear on your car.
How long your drive is
If you live very close to your work then it might not be as worth it to carpool. The further away you are, the more you will save on things like gas and so forth.
The availability of people to carpool with
If you have several people right in your neighborhood to carpool with to a destination that is fairly far, then this is the most ideal situation and you might be more likely to carpool. If instead, however, the people whom you would carpool with are fairly far, then you might spend a lot of time getting them and it might not be as worth it.
Your concerns about the environment
Carpooling is good for the environment. Less cars on the road means less gas being used up and less emissions being put forth.
Would you enjoy the drive better if you are carpooling or on your own?
Some people would like to carpool because they would enjoy the drive with their friends. They may like to spend the time talking. Others might find it convenient because if they are not driving they can get something done like some work, read or even sleep. Some don’t like to drive and would just like to be able to take a break from that. Others like to have some alone time before they get to work. They like to listen to certain music. They might be less comfortable being in a car in which someone else is driving.
Are there other advantages?
Sometimes you will get to work quicker when you carpool because they have carpool only lanes that are quicker. You will not have as much flexibility about when to go and leave from work, however.
Carpooling has many advantages, but it is not for everyone. You can make a pro and con list to decide whether the advantages outweigh the benefits for you. Of course, the factors above can change, so reevaluate as necessary.
