How to Set up a Homework Area
(398 Words)
Setting up a specific space for homework provides a comfortable, quiet area where you can study and get everything you need done in an effective and efficient manner. Follow a step-by-step process to create a suitable space for yourself.
First you want to pick a good area to be your space for homework. It should be as quiet as possible and away from distractions. In a busy household, you should do your homework in your room instead of in the living room with two siblings, three dogs and your parents running about.
You want to make sure you have enough desk space in order to do your homework. You want to be able to spread around everything that you need. They sell many different desks, from large ones that are suitable for a college student to tiny areas. Many students who are low on space get a computer armoire, where everything folds up into an armoire but extends out into a complete desk. If you do not have enough space, then you can add some space with a tray table or some sort of portable desk.
Get a chair that is comfortable, but not so comfortable that you fall asleep. There are many desk chairs that are good for your back.
Place all of the things you need in your homework space. In most cases, you will need either a desktop or a laptop computer. Add school supplies such as paper, pens, pencils, highlighters, a calculator and anything else in particular you need for your classes. You should keep all of your textbooks and homework papers there so that you do not lose anything.
Make sure that you have ample lighting. This will reduce the risk of eye strain.
Set up a system to keep everything organized. You can have a filing cabinet for your important papers, for instance. You can set up a caddy or drawer with your school supplies. Keep it neat so that you do not lose anything.
You should also take away temptation. You might not want to have a television or stereo right near your homework space if you will be tempted to turn them on. Also, keep your phone away from you so that you will not be tempted to call or text someone.
A comfortable homework space allows you to stay focused. Be sure to keep it organized for maximum output.
