How to Stop Buying Items you don’t need

(410 Words)
Impulse shopping in the grocery store can land you with products you don’t need at a cost you can’t afford. It may be difficult to avoid impulse shopping while dealing with a toddler in your cart. Different strategies can help you keep control of your shopping trip.
Keep your toddler occupied
You do not want your toddler encouraging impulse shopping by pointing at one thing after the next, saying “I want, I want.” If you distract your child, then you will both be able to get through the store quicker (which will help you avoid impulse shopping) and also lower the chances of your toddler asking for something that he or she really does not need.
There are many different things you can bring to distract your toddler. Bring food such as healthy fruits and cereals for him or her to snack on. You can bring activities such as coloring. There are many small toys and games that could distract your child. You might even choose a child-safe DVD player or handheld game player.
Make a list
A list will help you avoid impulse shopping. Make a comprehensive list so that you are not searching the shelves and picking out anything that seems interesting.
Make a plan
Don’t just make a list – make an exact plan to get through the store. Lump the items together that are in the same section and decide where you will go first. Follow your plan exactly when you get there, and don’t even look at the shelves unless there is an item that you need.
Resolve to say ‘no’
Decide that you are going to say no, both to yourself and your toddler while shopping at the grocery store. If you find it difficult to resist, then you can write down the items you are tempted to buy and get them at the end of your trip or even on your next trip if you still want them. That will lower the chances that it is pure impulse.
There are other various strategies that can lower your chances of impulse shopping at the grocery store while with your toddler. Try to avoid going to the store hungry because everything will look good. Make sure your toddler is well-fed, rested and just got a diaper or went to the bathroom to make your trip quicker. Try these and the above strategies to get through your trip without a cart full of items you don’t need.
