It is very important to back up your computer files. Doing so can help you avoid losing some very important information. Consider the following tips for keeping these safe.
E-mail them to yourself where they are kept online
If you have an e-mail service in which the e-mails are kept on their servers so that they will still be there even if your home computer loses everything, then this can be a great place to back up your files. Make sure that there is enough space on them because a lot of them will have limits on how much space they give you. You can email them to yourself and just keep them in a special folder. You will also be able to access them from wherever you have Internet access, which makes them convenient as well. Just be careful because if they have a problem or if you go over your limit or close the account you can suddenly lose everything. It does work well as an additional, innovative backup, however.
E-mail the files to family and friends
Another great way to backup files is to email them to friends or family. You can just ask that they keep them in a file on their computer so that if you ever need them you will have them. You can send them to a bunch of people, especially if they do not take up too much room, and you will have many backups if you have a problem.
Keep them in portable storage
There are many places where you can backup your files. You can put them on a flash drive. Since these are so small you can put them on there and then keep some in your workplace or even mail some to family or friends to stick in the back of a drawer in case ever needed. You can also just put them on a CD. They also sell hard drives that are specifically made to back up files. Some let you conveniently update it with just several clicks.
Keeping one or more backups of important files is very important. Think about the case of when your computer gets a virus or even worse if something like a fire destroys the entire computer with its hard drive. You do not want to lose all of your files, too. Consider the above tips to help you back up these files.
