: Knowing when to Unfriend someone on Facebook
:
(463 Words)
As you gaze at your Facebook friends on the screen, you just know that there are some that should not be on that list. How do you know when it is time to unfriend someone? There are different reasons you might want to do so, including the following.
You barely know them, don’t care about what they are saying and are generally apathetic to them as a whole
When many people start out on Facebook, they have one goal: get as many friends as possible. They want their friend list to be nice and plump and be a testament to all of the people they know. Once you get into the groove of using it, however, you may find it annoying to have to scroll through information about people you hardly know. Just because you shared algebra class twenty years ago does not mean that you care what they had for lunch. If you find that you really don’t care about anything they say and are not really getting anything from it, then it might be time to unfriend them.
When they send message after message after message
You know who they are – the people who feel that they need to post things on Facebook ten times an hour, every hour. You might not mind the occasional update from them, but if it feels like you are just being inundated with messages, then it might be time to unfriend them.
If you do not like the content of their updates
You may have some friends who say things that you are uncomfortable with. They may make jokes that you think are rude or insulting. They may have very strong political or religious views that are different than yours, which may frustrate you. They may always say negative things, which bother you. If you find that you are just always getting upset or sad by their comments, then you might want to unfriend them.
You do not want them to know about what is going on with you
There may be a reason that you want to hide something from them or just do not want them seeing all of your updates. Perhaps they are somehow using the information against you. Perhaps they are talking about you and what you say on Facebook. Perhaps you do not want them to know when you are on Facebook. Perhaps you do not want them to see your photographs or other personal information. If you feel uncomfortable at all by what they can see and find out through Facebook, then you might want to unfriend them.
If you are not happy with a friend on Facebook, then it is certainly okay to remove them as a friend. The above circumstances might dictate when to make this decision.
