Rotating turntable
A rotating turntable slowly spins the food as it cooks it in the microwave. This can help you get more even heating. This is a very popular feature on most full-size microwaves.
Minute button
A lot of people use the microwave in spans of one minute. A click minute button is very convenient to get this desired time. You simply put the food in, close the door and press this button and the food will start to cook for a minute. Usually, you can press it again to increase the minutes. Some microwaves also have a button to let you decrease the minutes and others will have a key that does 30 seconds.
Additional shortcut keys
In addition to a minute, some microwaves have shortcut keys to cook other types of food. This may include a setting for popcorn, pasta, oatmeal and grits. This may include both reheating and defrosting.
Power rating
People who want the food to cook quicker may want a higher power rating. According to Consumer Reports, most microwaves have 850 to 1650 watts of power. Small differences won’t matter, but a large one will make a difference in how long the food takes to cook.
Sensor cooking
Many microwaves will cook your food with a sensor. It can be very difficult to guess how long to cook some types of food, especially when they are large or will require a large time. Sensor cooking takes the guesswork out of this. Some microwaves are better with this feature and will do a better job.
Keypad
You may prefer a computerized keypad instead of a dial. This can help you get the exact time you want.
Additional features
Some microwaves possess features that are meant to simulate a regular oven. This may include grilling, browning, convention cooking or slow cooking. The efficacy of these range, but they do not generally do the same job as a true oven.
Generally, you will pay more for the microwaves that have greater features. Not everyone will use all of the features, so evaluate what you need to decide what is worth spending the money on. Compare the different machines until you find the one that has the features you want at a price you can afford.
