Steps in Planning a Block Party

A block party can be a lot of fun for the entire family. It can also be a great way to get to know your neighbors. Consider the following steps when planning this party.
First decide on the logistics
You need to decide the where, when and how of the party. First decide where it is going to be. There might be a perfect spot such as at the end of a dead end street. Make sure that it is does not block traffic and disturb a lot of people. If there is a nearby park or community center, then this might work well for your party. You want somewhere close that hopefully people from the block can walk to. Also think about the time. You want a time that most people will be home from work. The weekends are very popular. When thinking about the time of day, consider the weather. You want it to be light enough or you can bring your own lights if it is outside. Plan it for when it is not too hot or cold if possible.
Get the word out
You want everyone on the block to know about the party. There are different ways to do this. Of course, you can just tell people you know on the block. Tell them to spread the word to others they know. Of course you do not want to miss anyone so you can also go door to door to tell people. You can put flyers on people’s doors or mailboxes. You can also put up signs throughout the neighborhood.
Get the supplies
You might need items like tables, chairs, paper goods and so forth for your party. Of course, you will also need food. This would be a lot and expensive for only one person to do. One great idea is to have everyone chip in. For instance, a lot of people have folding tables and chairs. You can ask those that have to bring. Also, you can make it a potluck. You can have everyone bring something. If you want to not have duplicates you can make a signup list of different items that are needed for the party such as paper goods, drinks, dessert, side dishes, main dishes, etc.
Make sure that there is someone who can be a contact for the party to communicate everything. With careful planning you can have a great event.
