November Birthstones
(407 Words)
Many women enjoy wearing a piece of jewelry that boasts the birthstone of the month of their birth. If you are born in the fall month of November, you will actually have two stones from which to choose, according to the American Gem Society. Both topaz and citrine are considered birthstones for this month and both come in beautiful yellow/orange versions.
Topaz
Topaz is one of the most popular gemstones seen in modern jewelry. It comes in many different colors. It is sometimes confused with quartz, but it is a completely different stone. The most expensive color is the Imperial topaz, which has an orange body and undertones of pink. It was named for the Russian Czars in the nineteenth century.
Some of the colors that topaz appears in are yellow, pink, purple, orange and blue. Blue topaz is extremely popular and is seen in many pieces of jewelry. Many pieces of topaz are extremely reasonable in cost compared to more precious stones. Oftentimes white topaz is used in jewelry to look like the much more expensive diamonds. Topaz can often be found in a very clear state without obvious flaws, making it a very attractive gem.
Citrine
Citrine is considered a healing quartz. People once believed that it could help people stay in good health and that it provided people with energy, hope and warmth. The warm color goes from a light yellow to a dark orange with brown undertones. It fits right into the fiery oranges and yellows seen in nature during the autumn month.
Citrine is found in a lot of places in nature. Because of this, the stone is a very reasonable priced one. You can get large clear piece for a fraction of the price of other more expensive gemstones such as rubies and emeralds. It is very often made into pieces such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. It originates from a number of sources. Countries where it is most often mined include Bolivia, Brazil and Spain.
The orange citrine and colored topaz make fitting gemstones for the month of November. Most of the jewelry stores designate citrine as the November birthstone, thus you will find many sets with this gem. It makes a great gift for someone who is celebrating a birthday in that month and can also be found in mother’s jewelry for moms who have November babies. Both of these stones come in quality pieces for reasonable prices.
