Reasons Some Adults Do Not Like Birthdays
2161 Words: 402
Some people like to sing from the rooftops on the anniversary of the day of their birth, while others would just as soon hide under a log on this day. It is a day to celebrate a momentous occasion, so why do so many people shun this day? Different people have different reasons. The following are some of these reasons.
They think that birthdays are for children
Some adults feel that birthdays are only for children. When they think of birthdays, then may think of clowns, pony rides and the other joys of youth. They may feel that they are above such things, and that this sort of fun is reserved only for the little ones. They may feel silly doing it. They also may feel embarrassed to have people calling them or too embarrassed do something even if they want to. They may want a party or something else but not be sure how to put one together without seeming like a kid.
They do not like to be the center of attention
Depending on the size of your family and number of friends, as well as their personalities, some people unwittingly become the center of attention on their birthdays. They may get calls, a surprise party and other attention that they may not want. Some people are shyer or like to keep more to themselves and not be the center of attention. They may not like birthdays for that reason.
It is a reminder of them aging
This is an extremely common reason for dislike of this day. Many adults do not like getting old, and they feel that birthdays are a reminder of this. They may wish that they could stay young forever and not change the age that they are. Obviously, when a birthday comes, you do not have a choice in this. This may be especially strong when someone passes a major milestone such as the turning of a decade. Even though it is just a number, and you are not very different when you are forty versus thirty-nine and three hundred and sixty-four days, you may feel a whole lot older. It also may remind them of times they wish they could go back to and that might make them sad. Also some people dread being older or closer to the end of their lives and this may scare or at least be uncomfortable for them.
