Being a stay-at-home mom can be very stressful. There are many steps that you can take in order to help yourself lower your stress, including the following methods.
Take some time to yourself
For many stay-at-home moms, their lives center around their children. It is important, however, for them to take some time to themselves, especially if they feel like they are becoming overwhelmed. It is okay to let your children watch television for a few minutes if you need some time to just lay down and relax. Do not feel guilty if you cannot be with them for every second of every day. They may be able to occupy themselves with a craft or coloring. Spend the money to have a mother’s helper come in even if it is for half an hour just to give yourself the time that you need in order to re-energize yourself.
Consider mediation
Meditation can be great way to calm yourself down. There are many guided imagery tapes that you can listen to. Some of them are just ten or fifteen minutes long and can be fit into most schedules. There are also books and information on the Internet on this. You can even just relax and imagine yourself in a calm place such as a warm beach. You can try to do this every day as you wake up to start your day off right.
Exercise
A lot of stay-at-home moms find that exercise can be great at reducing stress. Not only is it good for your body, but it can help release stress-fighting hormones that can make you happier and calmer. Even just a half an hour a day can make a big difference for a lot of women. Pick something you like an aerobics class or a fun sport. You can join a gym that has free babysitting so that your children are watched while you get to exercise.
Try to stay calm
It can be very hectic with small children in the house. As best as you can, try to stay calm and relax. If you get nervous with your kids, then they might get more worked up and it can be a big cycle.
Get support
You may be able to be less stressed if you are not just sitting home with your kids all day. Look for something like a mother’s club. When you are out with people and distracted you might feel less stressed. You also will have people that you can call upon to vent to if that happens.
It can be challenging to be a stay-at-home mom, and you want to control your stress level. The above pointers can help you with this.
