Autumn is a lovely time of year. The weather is starting to cool, leaves are turning beautiful colors, and several significant holidays occur. One way to get into the season is to have the children make an Autumn themed art project. Consider the following ideas.
Paint a picture of an Autumn scene
In many places of the country, Autumn is filled with fiery trees that look like artwork themselves. They have been the inspiration for many artists’ canvases and they can also inspire the children. If there is somewhere by the school where they can sit outside and paint the trees, then that can give the kids good experience of painting from life. Otherwise you can have the children try to paint a scene with all different colors of trees form their imagination.
Use leaves in an art project
If you live in a place where colorful Autumn leaves are plentiful, then you can collect these to use in your project. You can make a collage with them. You can also find a big leaf, mount it to paper and then have the children paint a scene on it. Alternatively, you can have the children put the leaves on paper and use them as a stencil, and then they can then color the paper leaves to replicate the real ones. You can also put the paper over the leaves and lightly run the pencil over it to get an imprint. You can let the children try these with all different sizes and colors of leaves.
Fabric art project
There are many different fabric art projects that the children can do to celebrate Autumn. They can cut out the shape of leaves in fabric for instance. They can then glue these onto an object such as a wooden box or picture frame. They can also decorate an Autumn outfit to wear. They can paint pumpkins or other Autumn themes with fabric paints.
Holiday art project
Halloween occurs during the Autumn, and you might do an art project with that. One great project that can fit both the holiday and the season is a pumpkin one. The children can each get a miniature pumpkin and paint it with paint that is specifically meant for it. They can then use that to decorate their classroom desk or bedroom for the holidays. They may also do an art project with turkeys for Thanksgiving such as making a stuffed one with fabric and cotton.
