A Sunday school teacher will have many choices when crafting a bulletin board for the month of December. Of course, many will choose to center it around Christmas, and they can use the bulletin board to both delight and teach the students.
Nativity Scene
One idea for a December Sunday school bulletin board would be to place the nativity scene on the board. You can paint or draw in a picture of it. You may be able to find some posters, as well. You can include writing explaining who everyone is, so it can be a good teaching tool for the students.
Santa Claus
If the children are younger, they may like to see a depiction of Santa Claus on the bulletin board. Many kids look forward to the jolly man all year long. You can show him on his sleigh with the reindeers. If you want to include a lesson in the bulletin board, then you can write out what one needs to do to please Santa, such as being considerate of others. You can also get the children involved in the bulletin board. For instance, you can ask that they write down the good things that they do so as to get on the “nice list.” You can post these up on the board.
Christmas Tree bulletin board
Many of the children probably have a Christmas tree in their house, and you can make one on the board. You can use construction paper, poster board, paint or markers to make the tree. You can then hang real ornaments to give a 3D effect. Alternatively, you can have the children make paper ornaments as a craft. You can use these to decorate the tree.
The importance of family
December is a good time to remind the children of the importance of family. You can have the children draw pictures of their families and post these on the board. You can also include writing about why it is important to spend quality time with your loved ones.
The importance of giving
During this festive season, you may want to highlight how important it is to give. You can have up different pictures of ways that the children can give back to others such as helping to tutor another child, giving up their seat on a bus for a senior citizen, etc.
No matter which of the above ideas you choose, you want the bulletin board to be visually attractive. You may want red or green in the background to commemorate Christmas. You can outline it with paper candy canes or paper Charismas lights. You can even use real Christmas lights to frame it, which the children may find fun. With a little creativity, you can come up with a great Sunday School board for December.
