(405 Words)
Continuing education beyond high school can open doors and forge opportunities. There are many reasons why this path should be encouraged, including the following.
Many jobs require a college degree
In today’s competitive workforce, many employers will not even consider you if you do not have a college education. Some even require graduate degrees. Many people choose to go for these, thus if they have a choice between someone who has such a degree and someone who doesn’t, they will often choose the person with the greater amount of education. Also, many jobs require advanced knowledge that you can only get from further education. There is only so much you can learn in high school before you run out of time. College can add to this and give you a much better chance of getting many jobs. Even if you are not sure of what you want to do, don’t you want to give yourself the most opportunities possible?
You might make more money in the future
Even in the same job, an advanced degree can sometimes get you more money. For instance, in some school districts such as the Broward County school district, teachers with advanced degrees like a Masters will earn more. In general the higher paying jobs often require degrees beyond high school. With a college education, you can be setting yourself up for a higher salary month after month, year after year.
You can learn more
Completely independent of getting a job, there are many important lessons that you can learn in college. These skills such as those in math and English can help you with everyday life. You might appear more intelligent to people and you might be more knowledgeable about more things. You might also find something interesting that you would like to do with your life.
Other people might think more of you
If you are looking for a relationship, you might find some people who only want someone who has a college education. Other people might think more of you, and you might also make your family proud if you follow this path.
In addition to academics, further education gives you other important lessons. If you go away to college you can learn to be independent in a somewhat sheltered environment. You can learn how to deal with people on your own.
When thinking about whether to continue your education after high school, consider the above advantages.
