Things to do at Quebecs Winter Carnival

Quebec’s Winter Carnival provides fun and excitement to visitors from around the world. The first winter carnival in Quebec occurred in 1894 and provided residents and visitors with a grand celebration to provide delight during the difficult winter. Changes occurred and the first modern Québec Winter Carnival emerged in 1955. It has grown tremendously since its inception and provides many events in its approximately two week run. Events range in location over Quebec.
Opening and closing ceremonies
You can welcome and then say goodbye to the carnival at the opening and closing ceremonies. Get a taste of what is to come with an exciting show featuring Bonhomme. This takes place at the Ice Palace, and the mayor is typically in attendance.
Bonhomme
Bonhomme is the special guest of Quebec’s Winter Carnival. His costume is that of a snowman with a red hat, big black buttons and a ceinture fléchée. You can see him at many different events during the festival including the Opening night show, Outdoor Dance party, concert, dog sledding race and flag parade. The whole family can also go skating with him.
Parades
Parades showcase the excitement of the celebration. They are held on the first and second night. There is also a day parade with inflatable characters, which can delight children and adults alike. Artic Spas village
Take a dip in the warm water to help ward off the chill of winter. There are three spas and a sauna. A new addition is a cold-water pool.

You can enjoy a free breakfast at the expense of the fair. The menu consists of pancakes, sausages and hot coffee.
Desjardins Snow slides
If you enjoy sledding, then you can choose from one of three snow corridors. Located at the Plains of Abraham, this is a popular family activity of the festival.
Soccer-table game
It’s just like a regular soccer table, except you are in it! Eighteen participants per game can play soccer while attached in rows just like you would see on a soccer table. It is a fun and hilarious game moderated by a referee out to make sure that everyone has fun.
KRAFT Snow rafting
Enjoy snow rafting with the entire family. Each raft has room for a dozen.
KRAFT tent and village
You can enjoy games for the children. Special play areas and games are perfect for little ones.
Various family activities
There are many other activities at Quebec’s Winter Carnival. At the Place Desjardins site, you can go on sleigh rides. You can see a fireworks display at the Hydro-Quebec Stage. You can try your hand at snow sculpture. They even have a competition for the very best.
Sports activities
Those who love sports will find much to do at the Carnival. Dogsled racing, canoe ranges and a soapbox derby await. The 500-foot WestJet Zipline goes over the busiest part of the carnival, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Night activities
The night is alive at Quebec’s Winter Carnival. You can attend the outdoor dance parties at the Ice Palace. The SAQ Bonhomme’s Ball is a prestigious evening of fun. The TELUS Interactive zone helps get you moving with games that offer great prizes. You can even camp on the Plains of Abraham.
