Toddler Christmas Crafts
Toddlers love to do crafts. It helps them explore their creativity and create something they can keep. When the Christmas season comes, a craft can be an excellent way to celebrate the season. Try the following ideas for your little one.
Your toddler can make his or her own Santa hat. Take two large pieces of red construction paper stacked together and trace the shape of a Santa hat that would fit your child. Let your child cut it out if he or she is able to do so. He or she can tape it together, leaving a hole at the bottom so that he or she can actually wear it. Your toddler can glue on cotton for the fluffy tip. He or she can decorate the hat by coloring with crayons, markers and colored pencils. You can also let him or her glue on different embellishments like glitter, sequins, pieces of paper and feathers.
If you want it to be more sophisticated, then you can buy one of the many inexpensive felt Santa hats. Your child can then decorate it with fabric markers and paints and glue on embellishments.
There are many ornaments a toddler can make to hang on the tree or give as gifts to loved ones. The toddler can wrap a Styrofoam ball in aluminum foil. He or she can then place stickers all over it. Tie a ribbon around the ball to hang it from the tree.
Toddlers can also create candy cane ornaments from pipe cleaners. Get pipe cleaners in all different colors. He or she can twist them together and bend it to the shape of a candy cane.
Another great ornament is a handmade picture frame, complete with a picture. Help your toddler cut out a square piece of construction paper. Cut out a square in the middle so that it looks like a frame. Glue it to a cardboard backing on all sides but one to leave room for a photo to slide in. The child can then color the frame with red and green markers, crayons or embellishments. Put a picture of your little one in the frame and tape a ribbon to the top so it can hang from a tree.
No matter what craft you do, make sure to take the proper safety precautions with your toddler. Do let them him or her use small objects unsupervised if they can turn into choking hazards. Make sure everything is age appropriate and help him or her if necessary. With creativity, he or she can create beautiful crafts for the holiday.
