Promotional gift campaigns can be a wonderful way to advertise yourself to customers or clients, however they are not always successful. The following are some of the top reasons why one may not work.
People just throw out the items
You want to make sure your promotional gifts are money well spent. To accomplish this you want the recipients to keep these items for as long as possible and not just get rid of them. If you give out a cheap bookmark, for instance, and everyone just throws it out with the bag it came in, then you may not get a good return for the money you spent on it.
You spend too much on the gifts
Sometimes you can go the opposite way and get promotional gifts that are too nice and expensive. People may like them, but they may have cost you so much money that you cannot make up for the purchase price.
You do not get the right amount for your needs
It is important to make sure that have the right number of promotional gifts. If you have too little then you will not maximize your exposure. If you get too many then you may waste money and have to throw out some of the items if they are time sensitive such as if they have the date or a particular event printed on them.
It is easy to separate the promotional portion from the other portion
Sometimes promotional gift campaigns are unsuccessful because the person can easily remove the personalization. For instance, let’s say you buy pens, but instead of getting them engraved with your company name, you just put a sticker on it. If the customers can then just remove the sticker then people may keep the pen but peel off the sticker. Other promotional gifts can have this problem as well. Also, be careful with something like a candy wrapper. This is garbage as soon as the candy is eaten. That does not mean that it cannot fulfill your needs, just you should be aware of it.
The promotional gifts are not something your customer or clients would want
You have to think about your customers and clients when choosing the promotional gifts. If you have an entire table of them and yet everyone passes them by then it will be far from a successful campaign.
You should think long and hard when planning your promotional gift campaign. Get promotional gifts that you can afford that will entice your customers and hopefully make them more likely to purchase from you. Learn from past campaigns and adapt to new customers and situations.
