: Ways for Seniors to keep Active

:
(419 Words)
It is important for seniors to keep both mentally and physically active. You should always check with your physician as to what is right for you, but the following activities may be useful to a lot of seniors.
Walk
A lot of seniors can no longer run but that doesn’t mean that they cannot get some exercise in. Walking is very healthy. The more you do it, the more active you might feel. If you get used to just sitting all the time, then it might be more difficult for you to get up when you want to. Exercise can help keep your body limber.
Go in the pool
The pool can be a wonderful place for seniors to go to help keep active. Make sure that you feel safe getting in and out of the pool, of course, but a lot of seniors love the feeling of weightlessness. You might also want to go in with a buddy or where there is a lifeguard.
Take a senior exercise class
There are exercise classes specifically for seniors. You will often find these at senior center as well as the community center of senior condos and senior living facilities. Even assisted living facilities will sometimes have some of these. Sometimes these are in the water as water aerobics classes. Sometimes this will be good even for someone who doesn’t walk well because you might do the exercises in your seat.
Get out
Some seniors just sit in their homes all day despite opportunities to get out and do things. It is great to be active. Even going to the grocery store can be healthy for you. The mall is a great place to walk. There are senior centers in a lot of areas, and they may have a lot of different things that you can do. Do not push yourself too hard but if you keep going out you may find it easier. You may meet friends as well.
Go to different activities
There are other ways to be active where you are. Many condos will have clubs and different activities. You can partake in these. If they have shows, then you can go to those. They may have card games, arts and crafts or other activities that can help keep your mind active. The more you use your mind, the less likely you are to use it.
It is important that seniors stay active in both their body and mind. Consider the above tips to help you accomplish this.
