Ways to Cut the Cost of Eating Healthy
Some people use the excuse that they can’t afford to eat healthy. However, there are many ways that you can cut the cost of healthy eating. Try the following strategies.
Costco is a great place for those who are looking to shop healthy on a budget. Of course, vegetables are some of the healthiest foods out there, and at Costco you can buy four pound bags of organic broccoli for half of the price of most places. They also have huge bags of frozen mixed vegetables, which include corn, carrots, peas and green beans. If you like fresh vegetables, then you can get a veggie platter for much less than most grocery stores. They have big containers of spinach, spring mix and other fresh vegetables as well. They also have a great amount of fruit, which is great for eating healthy. They sell big bags of organic blueberries as well as big bags of mixed vegetables. They have many fresh fruits like blueberries, grapes, tomatoes, bananas and seasonal selections. Costco also has some bread with whole grains. They have a lot of other organic foods, and their prices are generally very good. You might have to buy in bulk, but you can oftentimes freeze some of the food to keep it good.
In addition to Costco, you can save money by buying from other discount sources. Target offers a lot of healthy food for less than traditional grocery stores. Also, you can look online. www.amazon.com has a grocery section now, which has a lot of healthy and inexpensive selections.
Look for sales
There are many sales at stores that sell healthy food. For instance, Whole Foods Market, which has a wide variety of healthy foods, is always offering different specials. Some of these are significant.
Look for coupons
Many items have manufacturer’s coupons. For instance, you can often get coupons for organic baby food.
Buy in bulk
You can often save money on healthy food by purchasing in larger quantities. Many stores will offer food in several sizes, and by buying the larger ones, you often can save per unit.
Cook more
Eating out is often unhealthy and usually costs more than cooking. Even foods that sound healthy often aren’t. For instance, you may be thinking that you can’t go wrong with vegetables but sometimes they smother so much butter and salt on them that they are far from a health food. Salads might be smothered in unhealthy dressings and fatty croutons. They add butter to a lot of things. When you cook, you can make sure that you only use healthy ingredients. You can buy these ingredients on sale and make a lot to last you a long time. You do not pay tax or tip.
There are many ways to cut the cost of eating healthy. Try the above strategies to help lighten your pocketbook and body at the same time.
