: Ways to Motivate your Lazy Teenager
:
(421 Words)
Many people have teenagers that are, in a word, lazy. They would rather lay in bed all day or watch television instead of being active or productive. Consider the following tips for motivating your lazy teenager.
Reward him or her for being productive
It is amazing what positive reinforcement can accomplish. When your child is productive you can give him or her rewards. For instance, if your child does very well in school, then you can take him or her out to eat somewhere special. You may also use privileges as a way to motivate your teenager. For instance, you can let him or her spend a little time watching television or playing games if they get a lot of other work done. They might be motivated to do better to receive these rewards.
Praise them
It is amazing what you can accomplish by praising your child. Many teenagers like attention by their parents even if they pretend otherwise. They might be more likely to show this motivation in the future if you praise them and make a big deal about it, even if you do not give them anything tangible.
Limit the time they spend doing things that are unproductive
Sometimes you have to actively prevent them from doing the unproductive things that are usurping their time. For instance, if they would spend all day playing their Wii if given the chance, then you can say that they have an hour a day and that’s it. You can similarly limit television time and other unproductive time.
Spend time with them being productive
You can make productivity into fun or quality time that you do together. For instance, if you want to motivate your lazy teenager to get in some exercise, then maybe you can go exercising together. If you want him or her to do some chores, then do it with him or her.
Turn productive time into fun time
There are also ways to show your teenager that it can be fun to be productive. If you want them to help you clean, for instance, then turn it into a competition to see who can do it faster. You might both be more efficient and enjoy it. You can turn on some music and dance as you do it. Be creative. You can sign them up for some productive extra-curricular activities.
Sometimes it just takes a little creativity to motivate a lazy teenager. Consider the above ideas to help your teenager get moving and increase his or her productivity.
