Wearing Workout Clothing outside the Gym

There is no solid yes or no answer as to whether it is okay to wear workout clothes outside of the gym. Much depends on two major factors – what type of workout clothing you are wearing and where you are going. People should consider these as well as several smaller factors when deciding what to do.
First, think about what type of workout clothing you wear. Some people wear workout clothing that is very similar to everyday casual clothing. For instance, you may wear shorts and a t-shirt. People might not even realize that you are wearing workout clothing. In that case it should not be a problem as long as you are going somewhere where that sort of clothing is appropriate. If you are just wearing a sports bra, however, then you will be much more limited as to wear you can wear it.
You may also be able to wear your workout clothing if you cover it up with something. For instance you might be able to throw a jacket over it and then it will look fine.
You also need to think about where you are going. If you are going to the gym and need to run into the grocery store on your way then it might not be a big deal. If, however you are going out somewhere nice then you might not want to be seen in workout clothing, not even for a minute.
There are some places you should almost never wear workout clothing. For instance, it would not be advisable to wear workout clothing when going to work. It is extremely unprofessional. This would not look good if you are going out to a restaurant or anywhere where people expect you to look nice. Also think about who you will seeing and what they will think. You may not want to show up to drop off or pick up your child in workout clothing if you think it would embarrass them.
Of course another big factor is whether you are on your way to the gym or away from it. It’s one thing to go to a public place wearing a clean workout outfit, but it is another thing altogether to wear a smelly, sweaty outfit out in public. You may want to avoid that to the extent possible.
There are many factors that influence whether you should wear workout clothing outside of the gym. Evaluate the above factors to see whether it would be appropriate in your situation.
