(409 Words)
The color wheel is a round circle that features colors in a pie-like formation. The original color wheel came from Sir Isaac Newton in 1666 and contained 12 colors in three categories, according to HGTV. The primary colors include red, yellow and blue. The secondary colors are green, orange and violet and are formed by the combination of two primary colors. The tertiary colors are yellow-orange, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green, red-orange and red-violet and come by mixing a primary color and one of the secondary colors that is besides it on the color wheel. Use the color wheel to decorate your home in hues that look nice together.
The first way you could use the color wheel is to see if there is one color on it that you want to use in a room. This would be a monochromatic look. You could use a single color in different intensities in the room. For instance, the walls, carpet and other items might be shades of blue. This can provide a very neat look and is good for someone who likes a particular color.
An analogous color scheme uses colors that are besides each other on the wheel. It can include between two and six different colors as long as they make a chain the wheel. In this look, the colors seem to go together since they are near each other on the wheel but since they are not the same, it provides some variation. You can use a lot of colors for a more colorful look in the room, but it will still all be held together because of their relation to each other.
You can also choose a complimentary color scheme with the color wheel. In this type of color scheme look for two colors that are completely opposite each other on the wheel. For instance, you can use the colors yellow and purple. This provides a deep contrast, but the colors often look good together.
A triad scheme is a daring and yet balanced way to use the color wheel to decorate a room. You pick any three colors that make a triangle in the middle of the wheel.
The color wheel can be a useful tool when deciding what colors to include in your color scheme at home. Bring it with you as you go from room and room to get an idea of what color combination would work best and portray the look that you desire.
