What is your experience in the field?
The worker will be able to provide much more to your company right away if he or she has had pertinent experience in the field. You want to ask him or her to thoroughly describe this experience, including specific job functions.
What challenges have you overcome in your last position?
Chances are that the employee will face obstacles in your job, and you want to know how the employee handles such problems. Ask him or her describe a challenge that he or she overcame and how it was accomplished.
What is your greatest strength?
You want to know what he or she can bring to the job. Of course just because he describes it as a strength does not mean that it truly is, but it may be an area in which he takes pride.
What is your greatest weakness?
This question can provide several pieces of information. First, it is often uncomfortable for the person to answer so you can see how he thinks in a difficult situation. People are often honest thus you can see anything that may influence whether the person is suitable for the job.
Why do you want the job?
Of course in an ideal job this would have nothing to do with money, but that typically is not the case. Still, this question can give you an idea about whether the person is truly interested in the job and may be likely to stay as opposed to someone who is just looking for any job and may leave when a new opportunity comes along.
Why did you leave your last position?
You want to know whether the person was fired or left his or her old position. If he or she has left a lot of jobs quickly, then you may worry that he or she will do the same thing with your job.
Do you have any questions?
Sometimes you can garner more information from the questions of the potential employee than your own. If all he or she cares about the benefits and money, then you may not be as interested.
