It is vital for a manager to communicate well with staff. Various benefits arise from open communication, which can affect all aspects of the company including working environment, company culture, and even sales and profits.
Instructions can be properly communicated
It is important for the manager to clearly convey his or her expectations about the work. They should be able to explain all job functions so that the employee can understand it. When the workers do not understand exactly what is required of them, then they may not be able to produce the desired work, no matter how hard they try. They may produce work that is off of the target and then waste time, money and resources redoing it. Customers and clients may become frustrated, and the company may even lose business.
When there is a good route of communication between the managers and the staff, then the employees will not be afraid to ask inquiries of the manager. They may then be able to ask the simple questions that will allow the work to be done right the first time.
The manager can find out about problems within the company
Problems that have nothing to do with the manager may arise between the staff. For instance, one member of the staff may be harassing another member. When the manager communicates well he or she can be more clear in the important rules that define the company culture. He or she is also more likely to hear about problems. When these are caught early, then they can be addressed with the least negative impact to the company.
New ideas can be expressed
Even the employees on the proverbial lowest rung of a company will have powerful and creative ideas that can aid the company. When a manger communicates well with his or her staff, then he may hear about these new ideas. They can be helpful to the company and allow them to change strategies for the better.
Employees will work more diligently when they have a positive view of the management
With good communication employees may hold a better view of the management. They may therefore work harder and be more positive about the company in general. This can lead to increased productivity and sales. When a manger does not communicate well with his staff, then the employees may experience frustration. They may get upset when something does not come out well because they were not given clear instructions or when they get the blame for problems that were not really their fault.
Good communication between managers and staff is vital for a business to thrive. It is important to train managers on this aspect of their position and correct any problems that occur.
