Invasive Research on Primates Raising Public Awareness on Animal Abuse in the Lab

(447 Words)
Animal abuse in laboratories happens far too frequently. Invasive research on primates occurs across the country, and it is often not justified by most people’s standards. It is important to raise public awareness of these issues so that they may be halted.
The first step is gaining proof of actual animal abuse. The evidence already exists in many cases, so it is not a matter of breaking into a lab but rather of finding this information. For instance, in 2005 People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) snuck an undercover investigator into an lab that did animal testing owned by a New Jersey company. In the 11-month investigation, they were able to obtain video tape of that included allegations of workers hitting and choking lab monkeys. PETA later submitted a 253-page complaint to the Department of Agriculture.
One who wishes to raise public awareness of animal abuse in the labs should obtain as much information about incidences like the one listed above. When they have it, they need to find ways to share the information with others.
The Internet provides a wonderful way to spread such information. One idea is to create a blog. It can specifically relate to the treatment of primates in invasive research in the labs. Although the details can be distasteful, the more detailed you can get, the more attention you will draw. Try to promote your blog with backlinks and other marketing measures.
Social networking websites can also be of use. For instance, you can use Facebook to promote your points on animal research. You can gain friends and join groups that relate to this topic. You can also join Twitter and send out tweets regarding primate abuse.
Videos and photographs can portray what words cannot. You can place these on a variety of places such as on a blog or on YouTube. Include photographs and videos of primates. If you can attain anything specifically related to the abuse, then this may hit home the most.
There are other ways in which someone may choose to spread awareness about the abuse of primates. Of course, word of mouth can be a powerful tool, thus simply telling those you know can be of use. Also, many choose to join an environmental group such as PETA. You can join in on demonstrations, which can attract a lot of attention. Some famous animal activists will even do print and other ads to promote animal causes.
Abuse of primates in the labs through invasive research does not have to continue. The more you can do to raise public awareness of this unfortunate practice, the more likely it is that the abuse will end.
