Writing a Graduation Speech

(423 Words)
A graduation ceremony is an important event that will live in the memories of people forever. If you are speaking at a graduation ceremony, you want to make sure to come up with a good speech that will motivate the students.
First, come up with the basic outline of what you want to write. Find out how long the speech is expected to be. You want to stay within those parameters. Next you can break it up into paragraphs. You will want an introduction and an ending, of course. Think about what you might want to put into the paragraphs in between.
You want to start out with something that will grab the students’ attention right away. Many people start with a story, for instance. This can get the audience right away into your speech. For instance, you might tell the story of how you felt when you first walked into the school. You can talk about something special that happened. It can also be a story of accomplishing something.
Talk about the important experiences school provided. You can talk about how people learned things that will prepare them for the future. You can discuss the foundation that will allow people to reach their dreams. You can also talk about the friendships that will last forever and the other important social aspects of school.
Talk about the future. Talk about the student’s aspirations and goals. For instance, you can talk about how some students are going off to college whereas others are going into the military and yet others are going straight into careers. Talk about how much each student has to look forward to.
You can also incorporate some advice into your graduation speech. For instance, you can talk about the importance of working hard and looking towards the future. You can talk about the importance of making goals and having dreams and chasing after them. The advice can be light and simple or much more complex.
Once you have the first copy of the graduation speech, you are not done. A speech may sound very different when spoken as compared to how it looks on paper. You should read it out loud, preferably to someone else. Make sure that it is the desired length and adjust as necessary. Think about the message as a whole and make sure you are happy with it.
It is very important to spend the time to write a meaningful and memorable graduation speech. The above tips can help you write the perfect speech for you.
