A great way to celebrate May with your students is to have them do an art project related to this month. Consider the following ideas for such a project.
Mother’s Day art project
In May is Mother’s Day, of course, and this can be the inspiration for the project. The children can make out a card for their mothers, for instance. They just need to take a piece of paper and fold it in half for the basis of their card. On the front, they can draw a picture of themselves with their mom. They can then draw whatever picture they want. Also, the teacher could take a photograph of each of the students and then print that out onto the card, which can provide for a special touch.
Memorial Day Art Project
Memorial Day is another holiday that is in May, and you can do an American-themed project to celebrate. The children can decorate a wooden box with paints in a red, white and blue theme, for instance. They can use paints to decorate other items such as a wooden picture frame. If they want some fitting clothes to wear during this holiday then you can give them a plain t-shirt along with some fabric paints or markers and let them decorate it in an American theme with flags, stars and fireworks.
Flowers project
May is also a month that you tend to see many flowers. The children can incorporate this into an art project. For instance, they can decorate a flower pot. You can get plain flower pots for very inexpensive. The children can then paint them or add stickers or other embellishments to them. You can also have them decorate a little flower vase that they can use for cut flowers or give to a family member.
The children can also make a painting of different colored flowers. They can also pick flowers from outside and press them as part of their project. You can also have the children use clay in their art project. They can make some clay flowers, for instance. Some clay pieces harden on their own while others need to be fired so get what works for you.
When spring comes, show the beauty of the month through an art project. No matter which project you choose, make that that it matches the skills and age of the kids. The above projects are some you may want to try.
