Earth Day Crafts Made from Recycled Jars

Throwing away a jar is a waste when you can instead use it to make a wonderful craft. Recycling is in the spirit of Earth Day, thus this can make a wonderful craft to celebrate this important holiday. Try the following ideas, being sure to adapt it for the age of the crafter.
Of course nothing is more green than plant life. You can take a jar and turn it into a pot for plants. First make sure that you thoroughly clean the jar. You do not need the lid for this. There are different ways that you can decorate it for Earth Day. For a very young child such as a preschooler, you can get Earth day stickers that include stickers of the Earth, the sun, the recycling symbol, plants, etc. They can decorate it with that.
A slightly older child can cut out shapes of paper to paste on the side of the jar. They may cut out the shape of a bird or of a plant. They can write out phrases related to Earth Day such as “Go Green!” and “Recycle!” You can also get paints that will adhere to glass and paint the sides of the jar with these themes as well. When you have finished you can put in soil and a plant.
As an alternative, a young child can also make some paper flowers to go in it if you would rather not have a real plant. They can use popsicle sticks for the stems of the plant. You can buy green ones or have them color them green with crayons or markers. Alternatively, you can use pipe cleaners for the stems. They can cut out paper petals and glue them to the stems. Place the finished flowers in the pot.
A large jar can also be used to store items that you are planning on recycling. How you decorate it will depend on what you are planning on storing in it. For instance, if you plan on using it to store small metal cans so that you can then recycle them, you can use markers and paints to decorate the recycling symbol as well as the words “Recycled Cans.”
One way that you can help the earth for Earth Day is by making less waste. Buying items with less packaging can help to accomplish this. Some stores sell items in bulk such as nuts and seeds. You can decorate an old jar for this. Be very meticulous when cleaning this if you will be storing food. You can draw a picture of what you are storing in there, which you can then glue or tape to the sides of the jar. For instance, if you will be buying nuts, then draw a picture of this for the lid or sides of the jar.
