It is important to remember that kids have feelings too. All too often parents forget this fact, with the results ranging from hurt feelings to lifelong consequences. Consider the following points.

Most parents want their children to be happy. Most would try not to inadvertently hurt them, at least. When you forget that they have feelings, then you may do exactly that. Parents may be used to talking about their children or even mocking them right in front of them. They may be trying to be funny. They may not think that the children notice or care, but even young children may have a far better understanding of the world around them than you realize. You may be making them feel bad and not even realizing it with your words. You should really watch them to see their reactions to what you say and ask them as well. You should then be sure to watch your actions.

Children are very impressionable. What you say now and how you make them feel can influence how they feel about themselves. Some of these feelings can set a foundation that can last for years to come. You want be aware of the feelings that they have and understand that your behaviors can shape how they see themselves.

Not only do children have feelings, but they are often very emotional. Their emotions can influence their behaviors. If you are always hurting their feelings, for instance, then they may act out. It is important to remember their emotions if you want to help promote healthy and happy behaviors for them.

Your children are always learning from you. If you act like they do not have feelings, then they may think that is the way to act. They may start to act that way towards younger siblings, to their friends and even to adults. These actions can become engrained in them as they grow older into adulthood.
It is very important to remember that children have feelings too. You should also be aware that they will not always respond like adults do with their feelings. Just because they do not act like you are affecting them does not mean that you are not. Make sure you take all of their emotions into account.
