Many people consider staying with family while on vacation. Although there are advantages to this, there are disadvantages as well. Consider the following cons when deciding whether this is right for you.
It may be overwhelming to be with your family all the time
A lot of people find that they need personal space, even while on vacation. You may find that the combination of being with them during the day and then all night as well to be just too much. You may find that you get stressed by them. Each family has their own habits, and these can be difficult to combine.
Also if you both have big families, then the house might end up getting quite crowded. You may have to compete for the bathroom. If either of you have children then that can be an issue as well. Perhaps you are used to being loud and you do not want to have to worry about waking people up. Perhaps they are loud and that would wake your family up. You may be worried that someone will do damage to something, which could be a problem. They may have a pet that you do not like. There are many miscellaneous reasons why it would not work.
You may feel like you would have to reciprocate
If you stay with family while you are on vacation, then you may feel like you will have to offer the same when they come to your area to visit. For different reasons, some people might not want this. Perhaps you do not have the room or you would just be uncomfortable. If you stay at a hotel while visiting them, then they might be less likely to ask or expect to stay at your home.
You may feel like you have to go by their schedule
When you are staying with someone you often feel compelled to follow their schedule. For instance let’s say that you like to get out early but they are late risers. If you were staying at a hotel, perhaps you could just meet them somewhere. If instead you are at their house you may not feel right leaving them. You also may feel like you have to follow their eating schedule, even if it is inconvenient to you.
You will want to carefully weigh all of the pros and cons when deciding whether to stay with your family during your vacation. The above disadvantages are some you may incur.
