Crafts to keep Bored Children Occupied on Rainy Days
“Mom, I’m bored!” “Will the rain ever stop?!” “What can I do now?” If you are a parent, then chances are you have heard these words or something similar on a rainy day. Children like to be kept occupied, and a great way to do this while stuck in the house is to have them do a craft. Consider the following ideas.
Decorate a shirt
One fun craft for children is to have them decorate a shirt. This is great because it is something that they can actually use. You just need to have some plain shirts in the house like you can get from Michael’s Arts and Crafts. They sell fabric paints and markers that are easy to use. When the rain starts, then your kids can get to work. They can design whatever motif they want. If it is near a holiday such as Valentine’s Day, then they might want to make one for that. They can also decorate other pieces of apparel such as a hat.
Make a clay piece
A lot of children would love to be little sculptors. There are many different types of clay that you can buy at a craft store. Some of them do not harden at all, some harden on their own and some will harden in your oven. Get whatever matching the ages, skills and needs of your kids. They can try to make something useful like a little candy bowl or just a fun piece such as a sculpture of each other.
Create a bedroom sign
Your children might like a sign to hang on their doors. It can say their name or give any message that they want (and is Mom-approved). You can get a wooden piece and let them paint on it or you can just have them make it out of construction paper.
Rainy Day Picture frame
The children can also make a picture frame craft, which can be very useful. They can even make it with a rainy day theme! They can take a plain wooden frame or use popsicle sticks glued together to make one. They can then use paints or markers to draw pictures such as raindrops, clouds and a rainbow. They can then place in a picture.
Crafts are a great way for children to use their creativity and beat the boredom on a rainy day. You might want to keep some supplies handy in the house for such a day.
