Choosing Child Friendly Furniture

When you have children, there are special considerations you will want to have when picking out furniture. The following are tips on choosing child friendly furniture.
Consider the color
You might love the idea of a pure white room, with snow colored couches giving the look of a winter wonderland. The problem is that with children it might not stay white for very long. Children get into dirt, paints, markers, crayons, spit up, diaper accidents and so forth. Even those washable crayons are not always so washable. With darker colors a few stains here and there might blend in, but white shows every little thing immediately. Even if you clean often, it might never appear so, and you may get a stain that does not come out. You may want to choose darker colors.
Cleaning ability
Some fabrics and surfaces are much easier to clean that others. Some you can just wipe down whereas others with absorb dirt and stains deep into their pores. You may want to get furniture that is easy to maintain.
Furniture that isn’t damaged easily
If you get some furniture that is very vulnerable to scratches and other damage such as a table made of a very soft wood, then you may be asking with it. Most kids are not known for their gentle touch, and they may love to take something sharp and run it across the furniture.
Practicality for children
A very high couch might look great, but your kids probably won’t be thrilled if it is too high for them to sit upon. The same goes for a dresser in their room. Think about what they can and cannot use at their diminutive size.
Safety concerns
This is the most important consideration when buying furniture when children are around. Certain types of furniture are just not suitable for young children. For instance, you will want to be very careful when buying something with glass such as a glass coffee table. If the children climbed on it or smashed something on it, you could have a disaster. Also think about whether anything could possibly topple over on the child or how easy it is for the child to climb up it. You can also think of places where the children can get stuck. Obviously there are precautions you can take such as anchoring a piece to the wall or using safety locks on doors, but some pieces will be dangerous no matter what you do.
There are many things to consider when purchasing furniture that is child friendly. Consider the above points before making your selection.
