: Disadvantages of having Children in your Forties

In these modern times, many people are choosing to become parents at later and later ages. It is not at all uncommon for parents to have children well into their forties. There are some disadvantages to doing so, however, including the following.
The pregnancy is more likely to have complications
As women get older, they may be more likely to have a complicated or high-risk pregnancy. The eggs age as the woman does, thus an older woman has a greater likelihood of having a child with down syndrome and other birth defects. They may also be more likely to have other complications such as miscarriage during the pregnancy, which can make it more dangerous for both them and the baby.
Many of your friends may be in a different situation
Although a lot of women do have children in their forties, most have had them by then. Parents in their forties may have friends with older children. It may make it difficult for them to relate to and get together with these friends. Also, a parent in this age might feel uncomfortable with other mothers who are younger. They may also worry that the child might be unhappy about having older parents if their friends’ parents are much younger.
You may find it more difficult to keep up with the children as they age
A lot of people find that they had more energy when they were younger. As they age into their forties, fifties and beyond, they may prefer to be able to relax more. Having a small child is a lot of things, but it is typically not relaxing. You may not find it as easy to keep up with them than if you decided to have them earlier.
Your children will not be adults until you are close to your sixties or beyond
A lot of people look forward to the time when they are older, can retire and just can enjoy life. When you have kids in your forties, then your children will still be growing up at a time when many parents are starting to get back a little more of their freedom.
Some parents also become concerned that something may happen to them when their children are relatively young.
It may create conflicting financial goals
Just at the time that you might want to be planning your retirement you may be paying for college or a wedding. You may not want to spend that amount of money at that point.
Having a child in your forties does have some drawbacks. The above points highlight some that should be considered when making this decision.
