: Why are Americans are Giving up on the Job Hunt

:
(411 Words)
Many people are facing unemployment right now. Many are continuing to look for new positions, but some are giving up on the job hunt, at least temporarily. Every person has different reasons for this, and they might include the following.
They may not feel like they can get anything
Whether it is a valid belief or not, a lot of Americans simply believe that they cannot get a position at this time. A lot of positions are getting one hundred or more applicants. Oftentimes people are applying for jobs that would bring in half of what their last salary was. Of course, you are also still competing with new college grads. A lot of businesses are cutting back and laying off people instead of hiring new. With all of these obstacles against them, some people just do not feel like they will be able to get a job.
Some people did search for a while, but with no luck. They may have applied to job after job only to not be called in for any interviews. They may be having difficulty finding jobs for which they are qualified to apply. They may feel that they do not want to bother trying and would instead like to wait until a better time to apply for new jobs.
They choose to do other activities
Because of the difficult job market, some people may be considering other activities instead of a job hunt. For instance, some college students may decide to go for a graduate degree. This will give the economy some time to recover before they start looking for a job again and it will give them some extra qualifications to make it easier for them to find a job when they do go back to the search. Some other people might decide to do some volunteering activity. Some people with a little bit of savings might decide to do some travelling. Also, some people may find a way to make money other than a traditional, full-time job. For instance, they may find that they can do some freelance work and earn enough money to keep them afloat, at least for right now. Someone might freelance in a field such as writing, photography, graphic design and more.
Although many are on the job hunt, some have chosen to give up on it. The above points highlight some of the reasons that people cite for temporary or permanently quitting the search for a job.
