Why Suburban Living can Cost more
Suburban living can cost more than other types of living. This is for a variety of reasons, including the following.
You will often pay more for the homes
In a desirable suburban area, you may pay more for your residence. A lot of people want to live in a suburban area, away from the heart of the city but close enough to commute. They may like to live near the malls, the restaurants and all such things. When there is a higher demand, the homes can get expensive. Because so many people like the idea of suburban living, you will find the prices for this type of living can be expensive.
You may spend a lot on gas
A lot of people in a suburban living environment spend a lot on gas. You might spend a lot simply to commute to work. If you lived within the city, then you might be able to do public transportation very easily or even walk or bike to your job. This is less likely in a suburban environment. Also, many people who live in a suburban environment drive to everywhere they go. There may be nothing within walking distance except more houses. In a city, you can probably walk to many places where you would want to go such as a little local grocery shop or a restaurant. Gas is not cheap nowadays, and the cost can add up quite a bit.
You may spend a lot on entertainment
There are many things that cost money in a suburban environment. You may pay a lot at chain restaurants, you may pay to see shows and so forth. In a city, you might just be able to walk outside on a busy night and enjoy the fresh hair. There might just be more going on around you that does not cost money.
You may spend more on utilities
If you live in a bigger home that is not attached to another home (such as a condo) then you may spend more on utilities. If you lived in a smaller, more modest city apartment, these costs may be lessened.
Suburban living has a lot of advantages but one disadvantage is that it can cost more. In many rural communities, the cost of living is just cheaper. The homes, groceries, etc. may just cost less. The above reasons highlight other factors as to why it might be a more expensive way to live.
